The recipe

What every viral how it works video does

The hook, first 2 seconds

Name an everyday thing with a hidden trick, then start on the trick: "Every time you press the elevator button, this happens on the roof."

  1. 1The everyday thing or moment, with the question in the title.
  2. 2Go inside: a cutaway or an x-ray view of the thing.
  3. 3Step 1 of the trick, with arrows and big labels.
  4. 4Step 2, one new part at a time.
  5. 5"So..." what the viewer feels in real life.
  6. 6The surprising reason or the fix, then the last line leads back to the first. The video loops.
Length
30 seconds by default. The classic 3D explainer shorts run 27 to 39 seconds. The new TikTok explainer accounts run 60 to 114 seconds.
Voice
One calm narrator, about 175 words a minute, no long pauses.
Look
3D explainer: clean 3D, soft studio light, cutaways and x-ray views, bright arrows and big labels.
Captions
White bold words, 2 to 3 at a time, in the lower third.
Pace
The top shorts show a new detail about once a second.
Posting
@trialandeureka posted 71 videos in about 4 weeks.

MakeViral writes to this recipe by default. You can change the length, look, voice, captions and music before you make the video.

Before and after

How creators make it by hand, and how you make it here

By hand

  1. Claude or ChatGPT: write the script: the question, each step of the trick, the "so" line and the last surprise.
  2. Blender + Blender MCP: let Claude build the 3D cutaway in Blender, add the parts and render each shot. source
  3. Blender + Seedance 2.5: build the scene in Blender, write the video prompts with Claude, then render the motion with Seedance 2.5. source
  4. ElevenLabs: record the calm narrator voice. source
  5. CapCut: time the shots to the voice, add the 2 to 3 word captions, the arrows, a whoosh on every cut and the music.

On MakeViral about 3 to 6 minutes

  1. Type one line, or paste your own story (up to 800 words).
  2. The AI writes the script to the how it works recipe and checks the facts.
  3. Every scene is drawn in one look with the same characters, then animated.
  4. Voice-over in 29 languages, captions, music and sound effects are added.
  5. Change any line or scene, then download a 9:16 MP4 with no watermark.

What is a 3D explainer video?

A 3D explainer video takes one thing you use every day and opens it up. A lock, an elevator, a vending machine. The camera goes inside with a cutaway or an x-ray view, and a calm voice explains the trick in a few short steps. Big labels and bright arrows show each part as it moves.

Many people call it the Zack D. Films style, after the YouTube channel that made short 3D explainers famous. MakeViral is not affiliated with that channel. We make the same kind of video: short, clear and in 3D.

The hook is the question in the title. "How does a key open only its own lock?" is a question most people have never asked, but once they see it, they want the answer. The video gives one new detail about every second, so there is no moment to scroll away. The last line leads back to the first, so many people watch it twice.

3D explainers today: the biggest channels and posts

The style is big and still growing. Zack D. Films has 29.5 million YouTube subscribers, and two of its how it works shorts, "How This Expensive Wood Is Made" and "How Cheating Dice Work", have 112.6 million and 105.2 million views (read November 2, 2026). Professor Of How has 16.2 million subscribers.

New channels still break through. Discover Inside started in May 2026, and its ATM video has 38.3 million views. On TikTok, @trialandeureka started in October 2026, and its fizzy drink video passed 10.9 million plays in about three weeks. On Instagram, @so.thats.how's dishwasher video has 9.1 million views.

Search shows the same interest in how these videos are made. US searches for "blender mcp", the tool that lets Claude drive Blender, rose from 1,000 a month in October 2025 to 18,100 in September 2026.

How to make a 3D explainer video with AI

  1. Pick one thing with a hidden trick. An elevator, a smoke detector, a toilet tank. The trick must be real, because the comments check.
  2. Write the question as the title. "How does an elevator never fall?"
  3. Open it up step by step. One part per line, with a label and an arrow.
  4. Give the "so". Say what the trick means for the viewer in real life.
  5. End with a surprise that leads back to the first line, so the video loops.

On MakeViral, you type the question and the AI does steps 2 to 5. It writes the script, and a fact check reads every step and number before you see it. Every scene is drawn in one 3D explainer look, with clean cutaways and labels. You get a calm voice-over, word-by-word captions and music in a 9:16 MP4 with no watermark. You can change any line before it renders. It takes about 3 to 6 minutes.

How do creators make 3D explainer videos by hand?

We found no public statement from Zack D. Films about its tools. In an r/animation thread, people only guess: Blender, Unreal Engine, Maya or iClone.

The new way many creators try is Claude with Blender MCP. It is a free, open source community plugin with 33,068 GitHub stars. It has two parts: an add-on inside Blender and an MCP server that Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code can talk to. Through it, the AI can run Blender Python, make objects and materials, bring in 3D models from sites like Poly Haven and Sketchfab, and render the scene. One warning from the project itself: the code tool runs any Python on your computer, and the connection has no password.

Other creators mix tools. In a tutorial with 567,082 views, Kyle Skelly builds the scene in Blender, writes the video prompts with Claude and renders the motion with Seedance 2.5. Then each video still needs a voice, captions, sound and an edit.

Claude + Blender MCP or MakeViral: which is faster?

Blender MCP is great if you know Blender and want full control. You install the add-on, connect Claude, describe the scene and fix what the AI gets wrong. A post on r/ClaudeCode with 908 upvotes shows Claude Opus 5.5 making a rigged reload animation this way. But one short still takes a script, a scene, a render, a voice, captions and an edit. That is fine for one video, and slow for one video every day.

MakeViral does all of it from one line. A 30-second 3D explainer costs 75 credits with the format's default motion, and a 60-second one costs 132 credits. You can start with a $9.99 one-time pack of 100 credits. You pick 30, 60 or 90 seconds, and the voice works in 29 languages. That matters here: Engineer Explain in hindi has 499,000 subscribers with 3D explainers in Hindi.

Note: Claude Motion, which Anthropic launched in beta on October 8, 2026, makes 2D motion graphics as code. It does not make 3D scenes.

Getting paid

Can how it works videos make money?

  • YouTube pays Shorts creators who have 1,000 subscribers and 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days. source
  • Creators in the YouTube Partner Program keep 45% of their Shorts ad revenue share, with or without music. source
  • YouTube does not pay for "AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates giving the impression of mass production". A new question with checked steps in every video is original work. source
  • YouTube does not ask you to label "AI-generated animation within a fully animated video", and a label alone does not limit reach or money. source
  • TikTok Creator Rewards pays only for original videos longer than one minute. Pick the 60-second length for TikTok. source
FAQ

How it works video questions

What is a 3D explainer video generator?
It is an AI tool that turns one question, like "how does an elevator never fall?", into a short 3D video. The video opens the thing up, labels each part and explains it step by step, with a voice-over, captions and music. MakeViral makes it as a 30-second 9:16 video you can post on TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts.
Which app does Zack D. Films use?
We found no public statement from the channel. People on Reddit guess Blender, Unreal Engine, Maya or iClone, but none of these is confirmed. MakeViral is not affiliated with Zack D. Films. We make the same kind of short 3D explainer from one line of text, with a different voice and your own topics.
How do I make videos like Zack D. Films with AI?
Pick one everyday thing with a hidden trick, ask how it works, and show it from the inside in short steps with labels. On MakeViral you type the question and the AI writes the script, draws the 3D scenes, adds the voice, captions and music. It is not free: a 30-second video costs 75 credits.
Can Claude make 3D animations with Blender MCP?
Yes. Blender MCP connects Claude to Blender, so Claude can run Blender Python, make objects and materials and render the scene. Users have shared rigged animations made this way. You still need to know Blender to fix mistakes, and you still need a voice, captions and an edit for each short video.
How do I connect Claude to Blender?
Blender MCP has two parts. You install its add-on inside Blender, then add its MCP server to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, and connect the two. The steps are in the project's GitHub README. Be careful: its code tool runs any Python on your computer, and the connection has no password.
Is this 3D animation made with AI?
Videos made on MakeViral are, and it is often hard to tell by eye. YouTube does not ask you to label AI animation inside a fully animated video or clearly unreal scenes. It does ask you to label realistic AI content, and a label alone does not limit your reach or your pay.
How long should a 3D explainer be?
The classic 3D explainer shorts run 27 to 39 seconds. The newer TikTok accounts run 60 to 114 seconds. TikTok Creator Rewards pays only for videos longer than one minute, so pick 60 seconds for TikTok. On MakeViral you can choose 30, 60 or 90 seconds.
Can I make 3D explainers in another language?
Yes. The script, the voice and the captions work in 29 languages, Hindi and Spanish included. Type your question in your language or pick the language in the options. One of the big 3D explainer channels, Engineer Explain in hindi, posts only in Hindi.
