Trending sounds

Definition

Trending sounds are audio clips, songs or spoken snippets whose use is rising sharply across a platform, giving videos that use them a temporary boost in discovery through the sound's own feed and page.

A sound on TikTok is a shareable object with its own page listing every video that used it. When a sound is climbing, that page is being browsed, and a new video attached to it gets a second route to viewers besides the For You feed.

Timing is the whole thing

A sound has a short window. Early, there is little competition and the boost is real. Late, there are hundreds of thousands of videos on the same audio and the sound page is worthless. By the time a sound is obviously everywhere, the window has usually closed.

The practical test is direction of travel, not volume. A sound with 4,000 videos climbing quickly beats one with 900,000 that peaked last week.

Where to look

  • TikTok's Creative Center, which publishes trending audio by region.
  • The sound label at the bottom of videos in your own feed, tapped through to see the video count.
  • Your own niche. A sound trending inside a category matters more than one trending overall.

The trap for faceless creators

Copyrighted music is licensed for personal accounts on TikTok, not for commercial use, and a business account has a different music library. Attaching a chart song to a video that promotes a product is where claims and muted audio come from.

There is also a format conflict: a voiceover video cannot carry a full-volume song. Most faceless creators run the trending sound at low volume under the narration, which keeps the sound attribution without burying the words. See AI voiceover.

MakeViral renders a music bed under the voiceover for the meme and photo formats. See the AI TikTok video generator.

FAQ

Questions about trending sounds

Do trending sounds still increase reach?
They can, but only while the sound is rising. The benefit comes from the sound's own page and from familiarity, and both fade once hundreds of thousands of videos use it. A sound climbing inside your niche is worth more than one trending across the whole app.
Can I use trending music on a business account?
Not the same library. TikTok gives personal accounts a broad music catalogue for non-commercial use, while business accounts get a commercial sounds library. Using a chart song on a promotional video is what causes muted audio and copyright claims.
How do I use a trending sound with a voiceover?
Attach the sound and drop its volume so the narration stays clearly on top, usually well under the voice level. You keep the attribution and the familiarity while the words stay readable and audible, which is what the format needs.
