Fake text story video

Definition

A fake text story video tells a story as a staged phone conversation: message bubbles appear one at a time in an iMessage-style thread, a voice reads each line, and a gameplay clip or a blurred background fills the rest of the frame.

The format works because it is the reading experience people already have all day. A viewer does not have to be told who is speaking. The blue bubble is one person, the grey bubble is the other, and the delay before the next message does the same job a pause does in a film.

How the format is built

  • A chat thread with a contact name at the top, often an emoji or a nickname that sets up the joke.
  • Messages revealed on a timer, with the typing indicator between them.
  • Two voices, one per side, so the viewer can follow without reading every word.
  • Either a full-screen thread, or the thread on the top half with gameplay on the bottom half. That second layout is a split-screen video.

Where creators get it wrong

Pacing. A real conversation has uneven gaps, and a video that reveals every message at the same interval reads as a slideshow. The best versions hold on the typing indicator before the line that turns the story.

The second mistake is length. A thread needs a twist by the 20-second mark, or viewers leave before the payoff and average view duration collapses.

Nothing about the format requires a real phone or a screen recording. MakeViral renders the thread, the typing indicators, the two voices and the timing from a prompt, in either the split layout or the full-screen layout. FAQ

Questions about fake text story video

Is it legal to make fake text message videos?
Staged conversations between invented characters are fine. The risk comes from using a real person's name, photo or real messages, or from presenting the thread as a genuine leaked chat. Keep the characters fictional and do not claim the exchange is real.
What is the difference between a fake text video and an iMessage video?
They are the same idea at different sizes. A fake text story video usually pairs the thread with gameplay in a split layout. A full-screen iMessage video fills the whole 9:16 frame with the thread, so the typing animation carries the video on its own.
Do fake text videos need a voiceover?
They perform better with one. Many viewers watch with sound on and a voice per side makes the two characters distinct instantly. Captions still matter for the rest, so keep the text large enough to read at phone size inside the safe zones.
