Text Message Ad Generator

A short chat between two people that ends on your product. Four skins, six angles, rendered vertical at 1080x1920 with optional voices.

A text message ad generator turns a product pitch into a fake chat between two people, rendered as a 1080x1920 video at 30 frames per second. Messages arrive one at a time with a typing indicator. MakeViral writes the thread, renders it in the chat skin you pick, adds optional voices and exports it ready to post.

What is a text message ad?

A text message ad is a short vertical video that looks like a screen recording of a chat. Two people talk. One of them mentions a product, gives a reason, and the thread ends. The viewer reads it the way they read their own messages, which is the whole point.

The shape is fixed, because the fixed shape is what works:

  • 6 to 12 messages, no more
  • The first message is the hook, in 8 words or fewer
  • Casual lowercase, the way people actually text
  • One emoji at most per message
  • The product is named once, twice at the outside
  • The last message is a soft call to action, not a link drop

MakeViral renders the thread at 1080x1920, 30 frames per second, on Remotion. Each message lands on its own and is preceded by a typing indicator, so the pacing matches a real conversation instead of a wall of bubbles appearing at once.

Sound is optional and it changes the ad. With voiceover on, every message is read aloud and the two sides alternate a female and a male voice. With it off you get typing sounds only, which still works in a muted feed. A gameplay clip can run behind the phone frame when the ad needs background motion.

Four skins ship with the format: iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger and Apple Notes. The first three are conversations between two people. Notes is one person writing to themselves. The whole surface is on the AI ad generator hub, and you can open the ad builder and pick a skin right now.

Which chat skin should you use?

All four skins carry the same script. They do not carry the same audience. Pick by where the ad will run and who is watching it.

SkinWhat it looks likeUse it whenSkip it when
iMessageBlue and grey bubbles, iPhone chrome, read receiptYour buyers are in the US, Canada, the UK or AustraliaYour audience is mostly on Android
WhatsAppGreen header, delivery ticks, doodle wallpaper, "online"You sell into India, Brazil, Nigeria, Indonesia, Latin America or most of EuropeThe US is your only market
MessengerBlue gradient bubbles, round avatar, "Active now"The ad runs as a Facebook or Instagram placement, or the buyer is over 40You are chasing a teenage TikTok audience
Apple NotesYellow-tinted paper, a title, lines typed with a cursorThe pitch is a confession, a founder note or a listThe pitch needs a second person to vouch for it

The rule underneath that table: a chat ad works because the interface is invisible, and the interface is invisible when it is the app the viewer already has open. An American scrolling Reels reads a blue bubble as a message. A Brazilian reads a green header the same way. Show the wrong one and they notice the interface, and then they know they are watching an ad.

There is a second rule for Notes. It has no second character, so it cannot do social proof at all. Everything else in your rotation can. Keep Notes for the angles where one honest voice beats a recommendation, and if you do not know your split, render the same script in two skins for 20 credits.

What does a text message ad script look like?

Two written threads, two products, two angles. Read them out loud. If a line sounds like marketing, it is wrong.

Before and after: a posture strap

Them / YouMessage
Themok what happened to your back
Youwhat do you mean
Themyou're sitting up straight for once
Youlol i bought that posture thing
Themthe brace ones are so uncomfortable though
Youthis one is a strap, you forget it's on
Themhow long before it did anything
Youtwo weeks and my sister noticed first
Themsend me the link
Youit's called Straight, checking the tab now

Ten messages. The hook is six words and it is a question about the other person, not about the product. The product is named once, in message nine. Nobody says "shop now".

Testimonial: an invoicing tool

Them / YouMessage
Themhow are you paid already
Youclient paid tuesday
Themi sent mine three weeks ago
Youare you still doing invoices in a doc
Them...yes
Youthat's why. no due date, no reminder
Themso what do you use
YouTallo. it chases them for me
Themit sends the reminders on its own?
Youevery friday until they pay
Themok i'm moving everything tonight
Youdo it before you send the next one

Twelve messages, and the result arrives before the product does. That order matters. "Client paid tuesday" is the thing the viewer wants. The tool is the explanation for it, which is a much easier sell than a feature list.

Both scripts hold to the same beats: hook, friction, reason, name, soft close. Swap the product and the beats still stand.

Which of the six angles fits your product?

The generator ships six angles. They are not interchangeable, and picking the wrong one is the most common reason a good product gets a flat ad.

AngleWhat the thread doesFits
Friend recommendationOne person asks, the other answers with a reasonApps, subscriptions, anything with a trust barrier
TestimonialThe result lands first, the product explains itServices, SaaS, coaching, anything with an outcome
Before and afterThe change is noticed before it is explainedPhysical products, fitness, skincare, home goods
ObjectionA skeptic lists the reason not to buy and gets answeredExpensive products and crowded categories
Founder noteOne person writes the story behind the productSmall brands, price changes, launches. Notes skin only
SecretSomebody shares a thing they were not going to shareDeals, resale, tools with an edge, anything scarce

Pick by the sentence a buyer says in their head before they close the tab. "I have never heard of you" is a friend recommendation. "It will not work for me" is a before and after. "It costs too much" is an objection. "Why should I believe you" is a testimonial.

The secret angle is the strongest hook and the weakest closer, so use it for cold traffic and follow it with something calmer for people who already saw it. The founder note is the opposite: almost nobody stops for it cold, and the people who do read all of it.

One angle per ad. A thread that tries to be a testimonial and an objection at once does neither.

How do you test text message ads without wasting credits?

One run makes up to five ads, and each ad is 10 credits. That number decides the whole method: test five of one variable at a time, never five random ideas.

RunAdsCreditsOn the $49.99 planOn the $199.99 plan
Five hooks, one product550$5.00$3.35
The winning hook in two skins10100$10.00$6.70
Four weeks of weekly rotation20200$20.00$13.40

The order that works:

  1. Hook first. Five ads, same product, same skin, same angle, five different opening messages. The first message is the only thing most viewers ever read, so it is worth a whole run on its own.
  2. Skin second. Render the winning hook in a second skin. This is where an international audience shows up, because a US-shaped ad quietly loses everyone on WhatsApp.
  3. Angle third. Same hook, same skin, a different angle. This changes who converts rather than who stops.
  4. Sound last. Run the winner once with voiceover and once with typing sounds only. Sound-on and sound-off feeds behave differently, and the same thread can win one and lose the other.

MakeViral does not measure any of this for you. There is no analytics screen and no account connection: you read retention and cost per result in the ad platform, then bring the winner back and change one thing.

Credit costs are on the pricing page. New accounts start with zero credits, so pick a plan before your first run.

Is this the same as a fake text message story video?

No, and mixing them up wastes a run. MakeViral makes both, and they have different jobs.

The story format exists to hold a stranger for thirty seconds with drama. The ad format exists to get one specific person to tap. A story video that names your product in message four dies, and an ad that saves its point for a twist at the end never gets there.

The full-screen iMessage story video sits on the same line: it is a silent suspense format for reach, built around the pause before a reply. The iMessage ad borrows the interface and none of the plot.

Story videos belong on the content account, ads on the product account. They are not competing for the same slot.

What makes a text message ad fail?

  • A slow first message. "hey" and "you up?" are not hooks. Open on the line that stops a stranger, in eight words or fewer.
  • Two people who write identically. Give one side long sentences and the other three-word replies. Real threads are lopsided.
  • The product in message one. Name it after the reason, never before. The viewer has to want the answer first.
  • Marketing voice. "Elevate your routine" has never been texted by a human being. Lowercase and one typo buy more belief than any polished line.
  • Emoji everywhere. One per message at most, and most messages need none.
  • A hard close. "Link in bio, use code SAVE20" ends the illusion. "i'll send you the link" keeps it, and the caption carries the code.
  • The wrong skin for the market. Check the table above before you render fifty ads in an interface your buyers do not use.
  • A real brand or a real person. Never put a real company's words in the other person's mouth, and never use a real name, number, photo or handle.
  • No disclosure. It is an ad. Label it wherever you run it, and use the platform's branded content control when there is one.

Why it works

What the text message ad generator does for you

Four chat skins

iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger and Apple Notes, each rendered with the right chrome, ticks, status line and wallpaper.

Typing indicator pacing

Messages arrive one at a time behind a typing indicator, so the thread reads at conversation speed, not all at once.

Six selling angles

Friend recommendation, testimonial, before and after, objection, founder note and secret. One angle per ad.

Voices or typing sounds

Optional per-message voiceover that alternates a female and a male voice by side, or typing sounds only for muted feeds.

Optional gameplay behind the phone

Drop a vertical gameplay clip behind the phone frame when the ad needs background motion in a fast feed.

How it works

Three steps, about a minute

No editor, no timeline, no export settings to get wrong.

  1. Describe the product and pick an angle

One line about what you sell and who it is for, then one of the six angles. The AI writes the thread from there.

  2. Choose a skin and a sound setting

iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger or Notes, with voiceover on or typing sounds only, and gameplay behind the frame if you want it.

  3. Generate up to five and post the best

A run makes up to five ads at 10 credits each, exported 1080x1920 with no watermark.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is a text message ad generator?
It writes a short fake chat between two people about your product, then renders it as a vertical video that looks like a phone screen. Messages appear one at a time behind a typing indicator. MakeViral exports it at 1080x1920 and 30 frames per second, with optional voices, ready to post or run as paid creative.
Which chat skin converts best?
There is no universal winner, only a right answer per market. iMessage suits the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. WhatsApp suits India, Brazil, Nigeria, Indonesia, Latin America and most of Europe. Messenger suits Facebook and Instagram placements and older buyers. Notes suits a founder confession. Test two skins for 20 credits.
How many messages should a text message ad have?
Six to twelve. Under six and the product arrives before the viewer cares. Over twelve and the thread stops feeling like a glance at someone's phone and starts feeling like a script. Keep every message short enough to read in one line on a phone held at arm's length.
Should I turn the voiceover on?
Test both. With voiceover on, each message is read aloud and the two sides alternate a female and a male voice, which suits sound-on placements. With it off you get typing sounds only, which suits muted scrolling. The same thread can win one feed and lose the other, so run the winner twice.
Can I put a real brand or a real person in the thread?
No. Never use a real person's name, number, photo or handle, and never write words into a real company's mouth. Every participant in the conversation is fictional, and the only real name in the ad is your own product. That is a legal boundary, not a style preference.
Do I have to disclose that it is an ad?
Yes. A fake chat is designed to read like a recommendation, which is exactly the situation disclosure exists for. Label it as an ad in the caption, and use the platform's branded content or paid partnership control where one exists. Keeping the skin realistic and the intent hidden is the line you do not cross.
What does a text message ad cost?
Ten credits per ad, and a run makes up to five. That is $1.00 per ad on the $49.99 plan with 500 credits, or about $0.67 per ad on the $199.99 plan with 3,000 credits. New accounts start with zero credits. Cancel anytime, 14-day refund window on unused credits.
Can I rewrite the script the AI produces?
You steer it rather than type it. Give the product, the audience and one of the six angles, then generate. Because a run returns up to five written threads, you are choosing between five drafts instead of editing one, and regenerating is the fastest way to move the opening line.
