Quiz video

Definition

A quiz video asks a trivia question on screen, shows multiple choice options with a short countdown, then reveals the correct answer, usually repeating for several questions inside one vertical video.

Quiz videos are the most reliable retention format in faceless short-form, because every question creates an open loop. A viewer who has committed to an answer will not leave before the reveal, and the reveal arrives three seconds later.

The anatomy of one round

  • The question, read aloud and shown as text.
  • Four options, labelled A to D, large enough to read at phone size.
  • A countdown, usually three to five seconds, with a tick or a music sting.
  • The reveal, with the correct option highlighted and a one-line explanation.

The explanation is what separates a quiz channel that grows from one that does not. "The answer is B" ends the round. "The answer is B, because the border moved in 1919" gives the viewer something to repeat, which is what gets the video shared.

Difficulty tuning

Aim for questions that roughly 60 to 70 percent of your audience gets right. Too easy and there is no tension. Too hard and viewers feel tested rather than included, and they leave before the next round.

Five questions in 50 seconds is the common shape. Keep the options inside the safe zones, because a four-option grid that runs to the bottom of the frame gets covered by the caption on TikTok.

MakeViral writes the questions, marks the correct option, writes the explanation, voices the question and the answer separately so the countdown sits in the gap, then renders the clip. See the quiz video generator and the Would You Rather video generator for the two-option version.

FAQ

Questions about quiz video

How many questions should a quiz Short have?
Four to six for a 45 to 60 second video. Each round takes roughly 10 seconds once you include the question, the countdown and the reveal. Fewer rounds feel thin, and more rounds push past the point where most viewers stay.
How long should the countdown be?
Three to five seconds. Shorter than three and the viewer has not finished reading the options. Longer than five and the tension drains away, which is when people scroll. A ticking sound makes a short countdown feel longer than it is.
Do quiz videos work on YouTube Shorts as well as TikTok?
Yes, and they often hold up better on Shorts, where viewers arrive from search and browse rather than a fast For You feed. The one change worth making is layout: the Shorts interface covers a different part of the frame, so check the option grid against both safe areas.
