The crochet filter is the AI photo trend that turns one photo of you into an AI crochet doll: an amigurumi doll of yarn with your hair, clothes and pose, in a crocheted copy of the place in your photo. It took off on TikTok in October 2026 with a ChatGPT prompt. Here, AI makes it from your photo.

Original reel by @adriana_official86, 10 s

The first popular post of the trend, by @adriana_official86 (14 October 2026): her own photos turned into crochet dolls with ChatGPT, alone and with her partner, using the prompt this page starts from. Five of her 15 pictures, cropped, with her post's sound.

Step by step

How to make the Crochet Filter photo on MakeViral

Everything runs in the browser. No editing app, no prompt to write, no watermark.

  1. Add your photo

Press "Create your own" and add your photo, face in view. Take it with the camera or pick it from your library.

  2. Press Generate

The button shows the price. Nano Banana 2 puts your photo into the Crochet Filter scene and makes one 2K photo. You write no prompt.

  3. Download or share

The photo is ready in a few minutes as a 9:16 2K image. Download it, share it from your phone, turn it into a video, or find it later in your Library.

Which photo works best?

Upload one photo. For You, a photo of one person. For Couple, one photo of you and your partner or a friend together.

  • Show the face clearly, in good light, with no sunglasses. The doll keeps the face shape, skin tone, hair and glasses, in yarn.
  • Full body or waist up both work. The doll keeps your pose, so a fun pose makes a better doll: a mirror selfie, a peace sign, leaning on a railing.
  • Pick a photo with a nice place behind you. The whole place turns into crochet too: plants, the floor, the sofa, the sea.
  • Big logos on clothes come out as plain knitted fabric.
  • Use your own photo, or a photo of a friend who said yes. Adults only: never a child, a celebrity or a stranger.

Where did the Crochet Filter trend start?

The crochet filter is not a camera filter but an AI prompt. You give an AI image tool one photo, and it gives back the same picture as if you were an amigurumi doll, the small stuffed crochet doll made by hand from wool and yarn. Your face becomes a round yarn face with big doll eyes, your hair becomes thick strands of yarn, and your clothes, the floor, the plants and even your phone come out stitched.

The wave started in Colombia. On 14 October 2026 @adriana_official86 posted 15 crochet pictures of herself and her partner, made with ChatGPT. By 17 October the post had 244,400 views and 10,200 likes, and under it she pasted the exact text she used, again and again, for everyone who asked. From 15 October, Spanish how-to videos called the look fotos tejidas (knitted photos), filtro tejido or muñeco tejido, and on 16 October English how-to videos named it the crochet filter and the amigurumi filter. The trend is still small and early: its biggest posts have tens of thousands of views. A first knitted-photo wave, a wool texture photo filter, went around in Spanish in December 2025.

  1. The Spanish hashtag #fotostejidas (knitted photos) starts with how-to videos for a wool and felt texture photo filter. By October 2026 it has 126 videos and 1.5 million views. TikTok

  2. A CapCut "efecto crochet" template turns a couple's mirror selfie into two crochet dolls. The post stays small, with 38,200 views. TikTok

  3. @adriana_official86 in Colombia posts 15 crochet doll pictures of herself and her partner, made with ChatGPT, and shares her prompt in the comments. By 17 October the post has 244,400 views and 10,200 likes. TikTok

  4. Spanish how-to videos for the look follow on the same sound as her post, under the names "fotos tejidas" and "filtro tejido", with a CapCut template. TikTok

  5. A how-to with the ChatGPT text for the knitted photos passes 25,000 views, and English how-to videos call it the crochet filter and the AI yarn doll trend. TikTok

Photo prompt

Turn this photo into an image in a knitted crochet style, as if the person were a doll made completely by hand with wool and yarn. Keep the facial features, the skin tone, the hair, the clothes, the pose and the background of the original photo, but make everything have a knitted texture, with visible stitches and realistic amigurumi details. Make it look sweet, pretty and very detailed, without losing the essence of the original photo. Vertical 9:16; if the photo is wider, extend the background naturally in the same knitted style. Everything is crocheted, like a real handmade amigurumi set photographed with a phone in the same light: the body, the clothes with their colors and prints, any jewelry, glasses, hat or phone, and every wall, floor, plant, piece of furniture and object of the place. Any logo, brand name or writing on the clothes or in the place becomes plain knitted fabric. Exactly one doll: nobody added, nobody removed. No text, no captions, no logos, no watermark, no frame. The face is always a crocheted amigurumi doll face made of fine yarn stitches, never a photo face: big glossy doll eyes in the eye color from the photo, with long lashes, soft blush on the cheeks, a small stitched nose and lips. The identity rules below apply to the doll's face shape, eye color, eyebrows, nose, lips, skin tone (as the yarn color), age, hairline, hair color, hair length and hairstyle (as yarn strands), facial hair, glasses, moles and freckles.

How many credits does it cost?

You pay per photo in credits, and the create page shows the exact price on the Generate button before you spend anything. The one-tap price covers one 2K photo, charged once. One photo is 3 credits, so the smallest one-time pack that covers it is $9.99 for 100 credits, with no subscription. A smaller 1K photo costs less if you run the prompt by hand in AI Photo.

What does the crochet filter make?

One new picture: the same photo, but you are a handmade amigurumi doll and everything around you is crocheted. It is a crochet effect on the whole scene, not a texture laid over your face like a knit filter.

In your photoIn the crochet picture
Your faceA round yarn face in your skin tone, with big doll eyes in your eye color, soft blush and a small stitched smile
Your hairThick strands of yarn, in your hair color, length and style
Your clothes and jewelryKnitted and crocheted copies, in the same colors and prints
Your pose and the camera angleThe same
The placeThe same place, with every wall, plant, floor and object stitched from yarn

You makes one doll from a photo of one person. Couple makes two dolls from a photo of two people, each with their own face, hair and clothes, in the same places as in the photo.

How MakeViral makes it: your photo goes to Nano Banana 2, Google's image model, with the prompt the trend's first popular post shared (below), and comes back as one 2K vertical picture. Under the finished picture, Make it a video turns your crochet doll into a short clip, with the price shown first. The create page shows the exact price on the Generate button before you spend anything, and every run is a new take.

The prompt behind the crochet filter

The trend did not start as an app effect. @adriana_official86 made her crochet doll pictures in ChatGPT with one short Spanish prompt, and pasted it under her post for everyone who asked "pasa el texto" (send the text). In English it says:

Turn this photo into an image in a knitted crochet style, as if the person were a doll made completely by hand with wool and yarn. Keep the facial features, the skin tone, the hair, the clothes, the pose and the background of the original photo, but make everything have a knitted texture, with visible stitches and realistic amigurumi details. Make it look sweet, pretty and very detailed, without losing the essence of the original photo.

MakeViral uses that prompt with its words and order kept. We only add what the model needs: a vertical picture, one doll for each person, logos turned into plain fabric, and a description of the doll face that the trend's pictures show, so that the doll still looks like you.

What goes wrong, and how do you fix it?

ProblemFix
The doll does not look like youUse a sharp, front-facing photo in good light, with the face large and no sunglasses. Every run is a new take.
The face stayed a real face with a yarn textureRun it again. A photo where the face is not tiny helps the doll face come out.
Part of the place is not crochetedRun it again; a photo with a simple background turns into yarn more evenly.
A logo or writing is still thereThe prompt turns logos into plain fabric. Run it again, or pick a photo without big logos.
Two people blend into one doll (Couple)Use a photo where both faces are clear and do not overlap.

How to post your crochet doll

  • Make a carousel. The first post of the trend was 15 crochet pictures in a row: you alone, with your partner, at dinner, on a trip. Make a few from different photos and post them together.
  • Before and after. Put your real photo first and the crochet doll second, or turn the doll into a clip with Make it a video.
  • Caption ideas: "If I were handmade", "Crochet me", "Made with yarn and love" or, in Spanish, "Si me hubieran tejido a mano".
  • Say it is AI. Keep the platform's AI label on. It is a picture, not a real doll.
  • Want a real one? Many crocheters make a custom crochet doll from a photo. Your AI picture is a good reference to show them.
FAQ

Crochet Filter trend questions

What is the crochet filter?
It is a TikTok photo trend from October 2026: an AI turns one photo of you into the same picture with you as a handmade amigurumi crochet doll, and the whole place crocheted too. People post the pictures in carousels, alone and with their partners.
Where does the crochet filter come from?
From Colombia. On 14 October 2026 @adriana_official86 posted 15 crochet doll pictures of herself made with ChatGPT, passed 244,000 views, and shared her prompt in the comments. Spanish how-to videos called it fotos tejidas from 15 October, and English ones the crochet filter and the amigurumi filter from 16 October.
How do I do the crochet filter?
Press "Create your own", pick You or Couple, add one photo with the faces in view, and press Generate. MakeViral turns the photo into a crochet doll picture and puts it in your Library. You need no ChatGPT account, no CapCut template and no prompt.
Is there a crochet filter prompt for ChatGPT?
Yes. The first popular post used a short ChatGPT prompt in Spanish that asks for an "imagen estilo crochet tejido", a knitted crochet style image, as if the person were a doll made by hand with wool and yarn, keeping the face, skin tone, hair, clothes, pose and background. It is printed in English on this page, and our template starts from it. The same crochet prompt for ChatGPT works as a crochet doll prompt in other image tools too.
Is the crochet filter AI? Are these AI crochet images or real dolls?
They are AI crochet images. Nobody crocheted anything: an AI image model draws the doll and the stitches from your photo. Say it is AI when you post it.
Can AI crochet me and my partner together?
Yes. Pick Couple and add one photo of the two of you. Each person becomes their own doll, with their own face, hair and clothes, in the same places as in the photo. The first post of the trend had several couple pictures.
Can I turn my photo into a crochet version of me, or of yourself?
That is what this page does: you turn your photo into crochet, and the AI makes a crochet version of yourself as an amigurumi, in the same pose and place. Some call it crochet yourself AI, photo to crochet, photo to amigurumi or turn me into a crochet doll. It is one picture per run, made from one photo.
Is there a crochet filter app, or is it on TikTok or CapCut?
The trend lives on TikTok, where the crochet trend posts use hashtags like #crochetfilter and #fotostejidas, and some how-tos send you to a CapCut template. MakeViral is not an app you install: you make the crochet filter photo online here and post it on TikTok, Instagram or anywhere else. MakeViral has no link to CapCut or TikTok.
What are fotos tejidas, filtro tejido and muñeco tejido?
They are the Spanish names of the trend. Fotos tejidas means knitted photos, and una foto tejida is one of them; filtro tejido, filtro de tejido, filtro crochet and filtro amigurumi all mean the knitted or crochet filter; efecto crochet is the crochet effect; muñeco tejido and muñeco de crochet IA mean a knitted or crochet doll made with AI. Many fotos tejidas a crochet were made with ChatGPT, so people also search fotos tejidas ChatGPT.
Is it the same as the knit filter or the yarn doll trend?
Close. A knit filter or knitted filter usually lays a knitted texture over a photo. This trend makes a full knitted doll of you, so some call it the AI yarn doll trend, a yarn doll filter, a wool doll filter or a knitted doll filter. Another yarn doll trend in 2025 was a makeup look, not a photo filter.
Is there a crochet photo filter for my whole group or my pet?
Not yet. You makes one doll and Couple makes two. A pet version may come later; this crochet style photo template is made for people.
What is an amigurumi doll?
Amigurumi is the Japanese craft of crocheting small stuffed dolls and animals from yarn. A crochet doll made this way has a round head, tight stitches and often big stitched or glossy eyes, and that is the look the AI copies. Here an AI amigurumi generator makes it from your photo, a bit like asking an amigurumi AI for an amigurumi of me.
Can I get a real crochet doll of me?
Not from MakeViral: we make the picture, not the doll. Many crocheters take custom orders from a photo, and your crochet doll AI picture is a handy reference to show them.
Can I make it a video?
Yes. Under the finished picture, press Make it a video: your crochet doll moves in a short clip. You see the price before you make it.
Can I use a photo of my friend?
Only if your friend said yes. Never use a photo of a child, a celebrity or a stranger, and say it is AI when you post the result.
Does the crochet filter cost credits?
Yes, a few credits per picture, because it is one AI image. The create page shows the exact price on the Generate button before you spend anything, and if a run fails, the credits come back.
Is my photo private?
Yes. MakeViral does not post your photo or the result anywhere or show them to other users. The result goes to your private Library, and you can delete it there at any time.
