## What is the AI Hug trend, and where did it start?

The AI hug is older than most AI video trends. In the fall of 2024, TikTok users put two photos side by side, asked an image-to-video site to "make them hug", and posted the result; Dexerto wrote a how-to on 1 October 2024. In September 2025 a new version spread on Instagram: **"hug my younger self"**, where people used an AI image model to make a photo of their adult self hugging the child they used to be. ### Which photo works best?

Use **two photos, one person in each**, from the waist or knees up. The prompt places both people in one park photo from the knees up, so a tight face crop leaves the model guessing about the body and the clothes.

- Sharp, front-facing faces in good light. Both faces must stay recognizable after the hug turns them.
- Similar light in both photos helps the two people look like they stand in the same place.
- Plain clothes work best. The prompt keeps each outfit, and busy patterns can blend when the two bodies touch.

## How do you make the "hug my younger self" video?

Use the same prompts with a different pair of photos: an **old photo of yourself as a child** first, and a **recent photo of yourself** second. The photo step places both of you in the park, and the video step makes you walk toward each other and hug. Upload order does not change the hug, so either order works.

Tips for this version:

- Scan or photograph the old print flat, with no glare. A sharp old photo keeps your child face.
- If the child comes back as tall as the adult, add "the first person is a small child about 7 years old" to the photo prompt and generate the still again.
- In the video prompt, change "a warm, tight, friendly hug" to "the adult kneels down and hugs the child" for a more natural height.
